How to Repost on Instagram (Posts, Reels, and Stories)

Reposting is how good content travels — but Instagram doesn't have one single "retweet" button, so the method depends on what you're resharing and where. Here's each path, including the newer built-in repost feature.

Reshare a post or reel to your Story

This is the most common and fully built-in:

1. Tap the paper-airplane (share) icon under the post.
2. Choose Add to story.
3. Resize, add a comment or sticker, and share. The original creator is credited automatically.

Note: this works for public accounts. If a post is from a private account, you can't reshare it.

Use the built-in Repost feature

Instagram now has a native Repost option (the loop/recycle icon under posts and reels in many regions). Tap it to reshare to your followers' feeds, with credit to the original creator. If you don't see it yet, it's still rolling out — use the Story method meanwhile.

Repost your own content

• Archive then re-share: restore an old post from your archive.
• Save the original file and post it fresh if you want a new caption and timestamp.

Reposting someone else's feed post (the courteous way)

If you want their post on your grid (not just your story), always ask permission and credit them clearly in the caption (@their-handle). Screenshotting and reposting without credit is poor etiquette and can break Instagram's rules.

Make your reshares reach people

Resharing only helps if your audience is active and real. Keep yours clean — find non-followers with UnfollowScan (no login, in your browser) and see why your reach might be low if reshares aren't landing.
