How to See Who Unfollowed You on Instagram (2026)

Instagram doesn’t tell you when someone unfollows you. There’s no notification, no list, nothing in the app. So if you want to know who quietly dropped you — or who you follow that never followed back — you have to find out yourself.

There are two ways to do it. One is safe. The other can get your account banned. Here’s both, starting with the one we’d actually recommend.

The safe method: compare your own data

Instagram lets you download a copy of your account data, including your full followers and following lists. Once you have those two lists, the math is simple:

• Following − Followers = people you follow who don’t follow you back.
• Save an old followers list, compare it to a new one later, and the difference shows who left.

Step by step:

1. Open Instagram → Settings → Accounts Center.
2. Go to Your information and permissions → Download your information.
3. Choose Followers and following, format JSON, date range All time.
4. Wait for the email (usually ~10 minutes) and download the ZIP.
5. Compare the two lists — or drop the ZIP into UnfollowScan and it’s done in your browser.

No password, no login, nothing leaves your device. This works because you’re using your own data — a right Instagram gives every user.

The risky method: tracker apps that log in

Plenty of apps promise “real-time unfollow alerts.” To do that, they need to log into your account and scrape it constantly — which breaks Instagram’s terms. Accounts using these tools get rate-limited, locked, or permanently banned. If an app asks for your Instagram password, close it.

One caveat about the results

A “non-follower” isn’t always someone who snubbed you. Deactivated and deleted accounts show up in the same bucket, since they no longer follow anyone. Keep that in mind before you take it personally — or before you mass-unfollow.
