Instagram's Daily Follow Limit, Explained
Updated June 2026
Instagram doesn't publish exact numbers, but it absolutely enforces limits. Cross them and you'll hit an "Action Blocked" wall. Here are the working ranges most people stay under, and the hard cap almost nobody talks about.
Daily action ranges (rough but reliable)
- Follows/unfollows: roughly 100–150/day for an established account.
- New accounts: far lower — start around 10–20/day and ramp slowly.
- Hourly: keep it gentle (think ~10–20/hour), not bursts of 50 in two minutes.
- Likes/comments: also limited; rapid-fire engagement triggers blocks too.
These vary with account age, history, and behavior. Newer or previously-flagged accounts get a shorter leash.
The total follow cap
Separate from daily limits, Instagram caps how many accounts you can follow at 7,500 total. Hit that and you can't follow anyone new until you unfollow some. It's a hard ceiling, not a daily one.
What trips the limit fastest
- Automation and bots acting on your behalf (the #1 cause — see how to fix Action Blocked).
- Follow/unfollow churn done rapidly.
- Repeating identical actions back-to-back.
Staying under the line when cleaning up
Mass-unfollowing is where people get blocked. Do it in small daily batches and spread it over days — our safe mass-unfollow guide has the routine. Build your unfollow list first with UnfollowScan (it finds who doesn't follow you back from your own export, no login) so each session is quick and deliberate instead of frantic.
