How to Download Your Instagram Data (Followers & Following)
Updated June 2026
Before you can check who doesn’t follow you back, you need your own follower data from Instagram. Getting it takes about two minutes of clicking and roughly ten minutes of waiting. Here’s exactly where to tap.
Step 1 — Open Accounts Center
In the Instagram app, go to your profile, then Settings and activity → Accounts Center. (Accounts Center is the shared settings hub for Instagram and Facebook.)
Step 2 — Find “Download your information”
Tap Your information and permissions, then Download your information, then Create export. Choose your Instagram account, and select Export to device — there’s no need to send it anywhere else.
Step 3 — Pick the right options
This part matters. The wrong settings give you a giant, slow file you don’t need.
- Under “Customize information,” select Followers and following only.
- Set the date range to All time.
- Set the format to JSON (easier to read than HTML).
Then tap Start export.
Step 4 — Download the ZIP
Instagram prepares the file in the background. In about ten minutes you’ll get a notification and
an email saying your data is ready. Download the ZIP — inside you’ll find
followers_1.json and following.json.
Step 5 — Analyze it
You can open the JSON files and compare them by hand, but it’s tedious. Easier: drop the ZIP into UnfollowScan. It reads both files in your browser, subtracts the lists, and shows you everyone who doesn’t follow you back — without uploading a thing.
