How to Find Accounts That Unfollowed You Over Time

There are two different questions people mix up. "Who doesn't follow me back right now?" is a single comparison. "Who unfollowed me?" is about change over time — and that one needs a before-and-after. Here's how to track real unfollows, not just current non-followers.

Why a single scan can't show unfollows

At any moment, you can only see the current state of your followers and following. There's no timestamp on when someone left. So to know who departed, you need an older snapshot to compare against today's.

The method: snapshot, wait, compare

1. Save a baseline. Download your Instagram data (Settings → Accounts Center → Download your information → Followers and following, JSON). Keep that ZIP somewhere safe with the date.
2. Wait. A week, a month — whatever window you care about.
3. Download again and compare the two followers lists.
4. Old followers − new followers = who left. Anyone in your earlier list but missing from the new one unfollowed (or deactivated).

One important caveat

Someone disappearing from your followers isn't always a snub. Deactivated, deleted, and banned accounts vanish the same way a deliberate unfollow does. So treat the "who left" list as a starting point, not a verdict — see why you lose followers for the full set of causes.
