Why Can't I See My Followers List on Instagram?

Updated June 2026

You tap "Followers" and the list won't open, loads halfway, or just spins. Annoying โ€” but it's almost always a temporary glitch or a known limitation, not a lost account. Here's what's going on and how to fix it.

Common reasons the list won't load

  • App glitch / cache: the most common cause โ€” a stale session or a bad load.
  • Slow or flaky connection: the list paginates as you scroll and stalls on weak data.
  • Large account: very big follower lists load slowly and sometimes time out.
  • Temporary rate limit: too much rapid activity can briefly restrict actions (see Action Blocked).
  • Outdated app or a temporary Instagram outage.

Quick fixes, in order

  1. Pull to refresh, then fully close and reopen the app.
  2. Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data.
  3. Update the app (or try it on instagram.com in a browser).
  4. Clear the app cache / reinstall if it persists.
  5. Wait a few hours โ€” if it's a rate limit or outage, it clears on its own.

"I can see the count but not the people"

On someone else's private account, you can see the follower number but not the list unless they approve you โ€” that's by design, not a bug (more in private account visibility).

Want a reliable copy of your lists?

If the in-app list keeps failing, you can get your full followers and following lists straight from Instagram's data export โ€” it doesn't depend on the buggy in-app view. See how to download your Instagram data, then drop the ZIP into UnfollowScan to see who doesn't follow you back (no login, in your browser).
